No surprises........

........as 'The Hurt Locker' became the big winner last night at the Oscars. Kathryn Bigelow's film garnered 6 awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Jeff Bridges also lived up to expectation to take the Best Actor statuette for his role in 'Crazy Heart.' Best actress in a leading role went to Sandra Bullock, for 'The Blind Side.' This is Sandra's second win of the week, having already (very good naturedly) collected a Golden Raspberry award for the role of Mary Horowitz in 'All about Steve.' Northern Lights Film Festival

Running between 20th and 28th March the 'nlff' promises to be another great participation event. Their website has full details available, www.nlff.co.uk, also Info line 0191 231 4066 and info@nlff.co.uk One event we have heard about is that on Saturday 27 March BAFTA-nominated Filmmaker Dan Elliott will be apperaing at the BALTIC Centre, Gateshead Quays, South Shore Road, Gateshead NE8 3BA. 4pm start. After the Interview

Soon after our interview with MA Screenwriting Programme Leader at Bournemouth University, Rosie Cullen, (which can still be seen on our BLOG page) MM toddled down to Madam Jo Jo's in Soho to see some examples of the graduate screenwriting students work. Opened by the Dean of the Bournemouth Media School, Stephen Jukes, extracts from 10 works (7BA & 3MA) were enacted on stage after an introduction from the writers themselves, awith Sophie Johnson filling in for the two unable to attend. The 16th London Australian Film Festival 2010

The 16th London Australian Film Festival runs from 18th - 28th March at The Barbican Centre, address - Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS. MM retains a fondness for this festival as it is where their founders at TFD had an early screening of 'Black Water' which has now been released around the world and you can still catch here on Sky and pretty much everywhere on DVD. Their Australian collaborator on that movie, producer Michael Robertson, has another film in this years line-up, 'Road Train' set deep in the outback and guaranteed to make you jump, it can be seen here for the first time and we are looking forward to it. Short & Sweet screen BAFTA Nominees

Short & Sweet the venue that has been screening shorts films every Monday night since it opened in 2006 plays London host for the fourth year running to BAFTA's 'Shorts on Tour' event. S&S will be screening all the nominated BAFTA shorts over two nights. Then, for the rest of the year the nominated short films and short animations will be going on tour around the country.
