He moved on to become an Assistant Director and then a Production Manager in feature film production. After a number of films as Production Manager he became a Producer.
Highlights in his long and distinguished career include the Academy Award-winning “The Crying Game” which he line produced, “Dance With a Stranger” and “Sour Sweet” for director Mike Newell. The winner of the Evening Standard Award “The Krays” directed by Peter Medak, Followed by Iain Softley’s “Backbeat”, “The Hollow Reed”, “A Kind of Hush”, “Mojo” for Jez Butterworth, Chris Menges’ “The Lost Son”, “The Guilty”, and in later years while developing TFD and MovieMogul.co.uk handled both “Last Orders” for Fred Schepisi, starring Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins, Helen Mirren, Tom Courtney, David Hemmings and Ray Winstone. and Charles Dance’s acclaimed directorial debut “Ladies in Lavender,” with Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. which received a Royal Premiere in London in 2004.
Cowan also produced the award-winning “The American Way” starring Dennis Hopper, which is soon due for a re-release on the Movie Mogul website. Paul has seen the TFD Ltd./Australian Film Commission collaboration, "Black Water" released theatrically in world-wide territories, which he co-produced with Michael Robertson and Chris Wheeldon.
