Maurice Phillips

Background: Director and Writer

Maurice has worked extensively in film and television drama both here and in the United States.

His first film, “The American Way”, starring Dennis Hopper, was the official British entry at the Venice Film Festival and won three awards at Avoriaz. He worked in Hollywood for several years where he wrote and directed his second film, “Enid is Sleeping”, which starred Elizabeth Perkins and Judge Reinholt, and opened the Sundance Film Festival in 1992. He also directed Gene Wider and Richard Prior in their last film together, “Another You”.

In the UK, Maurice has worked on many successful TV dramas, including, “Signs and Wonders”, starring James Earl Jones and David Warner, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, starring John Hannah, “Waking the Dead”, which received an International Emmy nomination, the first series of “Dalziel and Pascoe”, for which he received two RTS Awards, “Auf Wiedersehen Pet”, “Murphy’s Law”, “Silent Witness”, “Lewis”, and “Afterlife” to name but a few.

He is currently developing three feature films: “Last Rites” (co-writer), “When the Garden Gnomes Began to Bleed”, (screenplay by David Sherwin), and his own screenplay, “Salt Water”.
